Tight ensemble writing and arranging played with sincerity, humor
and live feel. The original tunes range from the gentle Sound of Water to the
cool vibe of Spy to echoes of Japanese reggae in Angle Wangle. The cover tunes
are straight ahead jazz. This audiophile, pure DSD recording catches the
authentic timbre of the acoustic instruments.
The Sound of Water was recorded
at Creation Audio in Minneapolis from October 16th to the 18th 2000. The
musicians were together in the main room to preserve the feel of a live session.
One spaced pair of Royer ribbon microphones image of the drum kit. A Neumann
M149 tube mic was used close to the bass. Another Neumann M149 covered the high
end of the piano. A Shure KSM32 was added on the low end of the piano and two
Neumann KM184 mics were used over the drums .
